"One of the best qualities of the excellent Students Helping Students series is the authors' sure sense of college students today. Like other books in the series, these offer practical, easy-to-absorb bits of advice that can immediately be put into practice. What's more, both books stretch way beyond predictable problems and solutions to offer a full array of possible challenges and useful strategies for solving them. Besides advice on applying for scholarships and financial aid, Fives offers tips on job searches, budgeting, and avoiding high credit card balances, always in relation to how students can pay for their education without being strangled by debt during and after the college years. Lombardo considers everything from developing university-employee contacts to roommate ground rules. Information is relayed in brief paragraphs, extended by interviews and direct advice from students who talk honestly about life on today's campuses. Other books in the series cover such crucial subjects as "Tackling Your First College Paper" and "Fishing for a Major."
