Self help books tend to be a symptom of a society with too much time on its hands and often do not aid you in anything but wasting your money.

The books "Scoring a Great Internship" and "Getting the Most from Study Abroad" are an exception to this theory.

The books are part of a series called "Students Helping Students" and do just as advertised, they help. The books offer tips from people who are still in college or those who have recently graduated. The books offer advice from professors on topics that are relevant, such as how to get along in a foreign country or how to do a great interview.

All of the books in the series are written by students so they are not condescending. They're written on an easy level allowing one to get through them quickly and go and do what you need to do to visit another country or to be an intern.

The authors do not make you believe if you read the books you'll just magically be able to getany internship you want or that you will be completely all right to study in Ethiopia for siz months; they guide you through the process.

The book "Scoring a Great Internship" explains thoroughly how an internship works and what it is, what it isn't and what it possibly can be.

It helps you to get organized to begin your search for you internship, it helps you choose the the right internship once you've been accepted to several, and then offers information regarding what is good and bad to do once you've chosen an internship.

It explains what you should and shouldn't do when filling out your interning application and writing your cover letter and resume. The book helps ease fears about choosing an internship and preparing for all of your interviews.

Throughout the book there are quotes and advice from students who have completed their internships.

The book is well written and it only takes a couple of hours to get through.

The book "Getting the Most from Study Abroad" is written much like "Scoring a Great Internship." It explains all of the steps on how to apply for studying abroad, what country you should choose and what to do once you arrive in the country.

The book has a lot of advice from people who have studied abroad. The book eases the reader into how to handle everything about their trip--from academics to fun. The book is also an enjoyable read.

These two books are a recommended read even if you're not choosing an internship or going to study abroad anytime soon. Readers will absorb more than just information regarding the specific topics.

You can learn life skills, such as how to do an over-the-phone or a face-to-face interview.
